While growing up in the Chicago area I was exposed to many styles of music. The
smoky jazz and blues clubs held a powerful fascination. I was able to get up close and
personal with the musicians and see the feeling they put into their playing. Giving me
the desire to practice even harder so I could express myself in music like they did.
Coming to the Monterey area was very musically inspiring and I began writing music and performing locally.
Moving through the process of writing music has enhanced my appreciation of
many styles of music. I try to make the familiar somehow different and compelling in a
new way. Mixing elements of various styles is one way of doing that and creates a
musical texture that the audience finds new and refreshing. The final result is music
that crosses the boundaries to enhance the listening experience.
